Should hitching posts be added at Sunset & Alvarado?

The city of Los Angeles has garnered about $750,000 for the beautification of Sunset Boulevard to Echo Park. Among ideas such as the addition of new benches, pocket parks, and decorative patterns featured on pavements, is the plan to install hitching posts to the corners of Sunset & Alvarado. However, these posts are not to be confused with giant chess pieces. They are decorative bollards that are meant to be a nod to Echo Park's 'Victorian-era' horse and buggy days.

Are these hitching posts a classic reminder of the 'Victorian-era' or out of place in the modern city?

Also included in these beautification plans are solar-powered trash cans, street trees, and a pocket park on the corner of Sunset & Park Ave. Engineers are planning to return to Echo Park in January to gather more responses from residents and to create another presentation. Don't look for these changes anytime soon, construction would not begin for another year.
