A message from the creator Heather Mendoza:
I am creating a sidewalk gallery “Art Hop” in Echo Park and would love for YOU to be a part of it! A one day event that will turn the neighborhood of Echo Park into a fun, playful and engaging artistic landscape! Imagine, gathering with your group of friends on the corner of Echo Park Ave. and Delta St. Bundled up in L.A. winter gear, not quite sure what adventure you’re about to get into, you’re handed a map. On this map you discover the sites of chain link fence galleries, driveway theaters, a hands on crafting station, performance art, intersection musical performances, outdoor movie screenings, sculptures, parking lot mini concerts and other various creative & mind stimulating public displays of ART. Before the adventure begins, you and your friends head into Chango for a hot cocoa or latte, with a side of scone. If you’re an artist, musician, an Echo Park Ave. business owner or resident, neighbor, friend, all of the above (or none of the above) and want to get involved or support this community event please email me! heather@ArtNeedsFreedom.com WE WILL BE GIVING AWAY FREE ECHO PARK ONLINE T-SHIRTS TO ALL VOLUNTEERS.

One of the inspirations for the Echo Park PDA Art walk was through my travels in Europe. I fell in love walking through the streets, little crowds of people everywhere, checking out a different array of shops, sitting reading a book, having coffee, or just sharing space with a few strangers. What I really loved, as well as the wonderful appreciation for the arts there, was the sense of community, the sense of being part something and connecting to other people. What I have found here in Echo Park is like finding a hidden gem. It’s wonderfully eclectic and unique. Saturated with a diverse group of people, little boutiques and galleries, coffee shops, and cafes. So much of Los Angeles is experienced through driving in a car, which is often very isolating. This event calls out to Angelenos to experience< EXPLORE & ENGAGE!
Through the arts, my mission is to not to only inspire people to explore new places and events, but to bring communities together to connect, celebrate, and share space.
The Echo Park PDA (public displays of art) is a one day event that will turn the neighborhood into a fun, playful and engaging artistic landscape.
